Chats and terminals

An agent's chat, its own terminal UI, and how to talk to it while it works.

Edit on GitHub

Start an agent with ⌘N, or from Start an agent on the welcome screen. Each agent opens in the chat Sikemux draws for it.

GUI and TUI

The GUI / TUI switch at the top of an agent swaps between:

  • GUI: Sikemux’s chat, with the transcript, tool calls, questions and the composer.
  • TUI: the agent’s own terminal interface, running in a Sikemux terminal.

Switch while the agent is idle. A switch waits until the agent finishes its reply.

The composer

  • @ attaches files from the project.
  • # hands over a GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket issue or pull request.
  • Selections from terminals, problems, logs and pull request lines can be sent to any agent.

While the agent works

You pressWhat happens
EnterYour message waits and is sent when the agent finishes its reply
⌘EnterSends it now, steering the agent in the middle of its reply
⌘Enter in an empty boxSends the messages that were waiting, now

When the agent asks you something

An agent’s questions open above the composer, one tab per question. Pick an answer, or type your own in the composer, and the next question comes up. Nothing reaches the agent until every question has an answer: then Send gives it all of them in one message. A single question goes as soon as you answer it.

You pressWhat happens
1–9Picks that answer, or ticks it when the question takes several
↑ ↓Moves between the answers
SpaceTicks the answer you moved to, when the question takes several
← →Moves between the questions
EnterPicks the answer you moved to, or moves on once you’ve ticked some
⌘EnterSends every answer, once each question has one

These keys work while the composer is empty. The arrow at the right of the tabs folds the questions away, so the composer writes to the agent again.

Its desk

Each agent has its own browser tabs on its desk. ⌘J shows or hides the desk of the agent in front. See Browser.
